Thank You!

By Michael Durant, 11/11/14, 7:30PM EST

Dear Board Members, Families, Alumni and Friends,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who were able to attend MRYHA night at the Manchester Monarchs.  We sold over 700 tickets that helped make the event a success!
I would like to acknowledge the hard work by the volunteers on the Board of Directors.  They have dedicated many hours upon hours to make this event possible.  I sincerely appreciate all of their hard work and dedication to this program.
The night started with our Alumni game of Red vs. Black.  It was great to see the familiar faces back on the ice representing the Flames again! It was a competitive fast paced game with Red edging out Black with a score of 12 to 11.
Red Team
John Cassidy, Drew Daneau, Brian Vachon, Carl Doucet, Chris Platek, Hubie McDonough, Jackson Musgrave, Jason Bergeron, Jason Vallee, Kyle McDonough, Lenny Ficaro, Matt Thompson, Peter Motsis, Shane Johnston, & Zack Musgrave.
Black Team
Eric Fisher, Andrew Russell, Brian Caldwell, CJ Ficek, Colin Merritt, Craig Pepin, Jeff Tancrede, Joe Proulx, Mitch DeBonville, Nick Therrien, Rob Beaudette, Stephen Ficaro, Steve Tempesta, Tom Faucher, & Tyler Caron.
During the second intermission the league recognized Mike “Buck” Williamson and Bill Houghton for their contributions to the organization.  They each have volunteered over 30+ years to the program while filling the roles of Board Members, Coaches, and are the current Program Directors of our Learn to Skate and Learn to Play programs. Their time and dedication over the last several years has led to over 500 kids signing up for our Learn to Skate and Learn to Play.  This success has led to the rebirth of the U8 and U12 Recreational Program as well as making MRYHA the largest youth hockey program in the state.

In addition to recognizing Buck and Bill, we took the time to remember four young individuals:

  • Marc Boulanger, who at the age of 15 passed away from an ATV accident in 1988.

  • Danny Richards, who at the age of 16 passed away from a motor vehicle accident in 1989.

  • Kevin Charbonneau, who at the age of 15 passed away from heart failure during the championship game of the MRYHA Bantam House League in 1991.  Kevin wore number 11.

  • Luke Capistran, who at the age of 16, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer in 2011.  Luke wore number 18.

During the ceremony, the league formally retired #11 and #18.  Steve Tempesta and I were honored to have Melody Charbonneau, Tom Fisher; and Deb and Charlie Capistran join us.

The league will be retiring a number in memory of Marc Boulanger and Danny Richards.
Throughout the night we had many players participate in different activities including the Bench Warmers, Max Pack, Chuck-A-Puck cleanup to name a few.  It was our goal to offer something for all of teams in the Rec Program, LTS/LTP, Mites and Squirts division.
What made the game so special for the program were the jerseys worn by the Manchester Monarchs to commemorate this special anniversary.

At the conclusion of the game, the jerseys were auctioned off to benefit MRYHA.  There are 2 jerseys that will be auctioned on the Manchester Monarchs Pro Shop Auction page.  If you are interested in the game worn signed jersey, check out the auction.
I hope all of you enjoyed the night as much as I did.  Thank you, for making it such a great event!
Michael Durant, President
