Dear MRYHA Families,

On behalf of the Board of Directors I would like to take this opportunity to share some exciting news with you. We recently learned that the Manchester Flames have been accepted into the Eastern Hockey Federation (EHF, “The Fed”) Tier 1 league. (http://www.fedhockey.com/index.php)

Movement into this league will allow our top 2003-2007 teams to play in a highly competitive environment against some of the best teams in the area.  This movement will also create vacancies in the EMHL giving us a permanent home for our second tier teams with 2003 – 2008 birth years.  Players with birth years prior to 2003 (1997 – 2002) will remain in the leagues they currently play in.

Our relationship with the EHF began with our move from the Mass Select League to the EMHL towards the middle of last season.  Simultaneously with that movement, we began our campaign to enter teams into EHF Tier 1.  Moving to the EMHL has proven to be a great advancement for our program locally and throughout New England and our addition to the EHF only continues that advancement.

The EHF has specific rules regarding tryouts and therefore our publication of tryout dates has been slightly delayed.  Expect to see that information soon.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank the entire Board of Directors and other volunteers that took part in this effort.  Specifically Hubie McDonough, Mike Desmond, and Steve Tempesta who spent countless hours on this project making phone calls, writing letters and traveling to Marlborough.  I would like to thank each and every player and parent that has believed in the success of MRYHA.  Without the dedication of the parents and players this program would not be where it is today or where it will be tomorrow.

We couldn’t be more excited about what this means for our program.  We look forward to an exciting yet challenging year ahead.

Regards,

Michael Durant, President
