Flames Goaltender Development Program

The Manchester Flames are excited to announce that Mike Buckley’s GDS has been named as the Flames goalie development program. Mike and his staff bring an impressive wealth of knowledge and experience to the Flames organization, working with many top NHL, AHL and collegiate goaltenders, as well as producing an unparalleled number of college and pro goaltenders in the New England area. In the last two seasons alone, Mike Buckley’s GDS has produced 12 Division 1 goaltenders, and 22 of 23 college prospective-age students went on to play college hockey. Most recently, Bedford’s Michael Robinson, a student of Buckley’s for the past 10 seasons, was drafted in the 3rd round by the San Jose Sharks.

In addition to being president and head instructor of GDS, Mike is also the goaltending coach for the UNH Men’s Hockey team, and the goaltending development coach for the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he works with all Penguins goaltenders and prospects as well as scouts and evaluates amateur goaltenders. Mike is complimented by a terrific, well qualified, staff including Kevin Moore, former UMass-Amherst goalie and professional player who assist Mike at UNH. Kevin is in his 5th season as a GDS instructor after training with Mike for 5 seasons. Kevin will be providing most of the instruction for the flames skills.

Flames goaltenders will receive weekly training at the GDS Performance Center located at the Ice Den in Hooksett, NH. The facility will feature an HD multiple angle video system, as well video for the students to study at home. Additionally, GDS staff will attend games to study Flames goaltenders, recording saves, goals and situations to review in lessons. Furthermore, students will receive three written evaluations throughout the season and Flames coaches will be in direct contact with Mike Buckley, providing feedback on goalies’ games and practice habits.

“I am fortunate to work with many great goaltenders, all of whom have different styles and formulas that make them successful,” said Mike Buckley. “I am excited to share what helps them and what I have learned from them along the way. I look forward to building great relationships with the Flames goaltenders and parents. I want them to know I am not here to change them, but to help them. We will train with intensity and focus, and put together strong development plans for each goaltender, all while having fun.”

Mike Buckley will be available to contact at 978-869-9188 or mbuckley@gdsgoalies.com with any questions.
