Anchored by stellar goaltending, supported by shutdown defensive play, and lead by timely scoring, the Flames Squirt Minor 1's took home the GSL Tier 3 State Title with a 4-1 win over Oyster River at the new Keene Ice complex over the weekend.
In the team's four games, they only gave up three goals (a 0.75GAA) while scoring 13 en route to the title. A 1-0 win over Berlin, a 4-1 win over Keene, and another 4-1 win over the Jr Monarchs got the team to the title game on Sunday afternoon.
Battling back from an early 1-0 deficit, the Flames Harry Dermody and Nick DiMarzio scored important goals to take a 2-1 lead over two periods, heading into the 3rd period. Flames goalie Tristan Kerr stood tall in the goal crease, making many great saves throughout the game. After some exciting back and forth play by both teams, the Flames Jaden Ficek scored a key breakaway goal late into the 3rd period, and then added another, just moments later, to seal the state championship for the Flames! A great game was played by all, and it was a proud day for both the Manchester Flames Squirt Minor 1 team, and their families.
Congrats to all the boys:
