PeeWee Selects 6OT Thriller Helps Bring Home State Title

By Joe Proulx, 03/09/16, 8:15PM EST

WOW and what a ride it was!!!  After falling short in Friday’s opener against Dover 3-1, the kids did a nice job returning to the ice on Saturday to clean up their game and defeat Oyster River 4-1.

It was back to the rink for an early AM tilt against Kearsage in the Semis. This game would prove to be a life changing experience for these 14 young athletes. Up one deep in to the third, Kearsage evened the score at one a piece and into overtime we went - AGAIN, and AGAIN, AGAIN, AGAIN and AGAIN -  That’s correct SIX 6 minute over times to decide this one! While James "The Octopus” Amorelli stood on his head in the net behind his "Brick Wall” of defenders Vern Landry, Sam Louis, Alex Lapointe and Brendan Brill, our gritty attackers Ethan Hartshorn, Matt Lapinsky, Sean Hunter, Jack Wilkinson, Ty Bacci, Cam Dykstra, Demetri Alexander, Nate Pope and Zack Griffin executed our complex offense.  And then "The Ole Dump and Chase”!  In the end, heart, determination and the ability to “Believe They Could” proved too much for our worthy opponent.  It was Griffin to Hartshorn in the 102nd minute of play that would end this battle of junior Titans.

Later that day, they got their second shot at Dover in the finals.  A group of tired kids put on an amazing display of energy in a 3-1 victory for the State Championship!

As it was, this was just a Hockey tournament, but no school, camp, autograph or lecture from a pro athlete could have had this sort of life lesson/impact during this “BELIEVE IN YOURSELF" effort demonstrated by our squad.

Myself, Coach Wayne Dykstra, Coach Roland Martin, Jeff Wilkinson, and Scott Hunter could not be more proud of this group of athletes for their committed effort all season long.  STATE CHAMPS KIDS! You earned it!!
Honored Coach,
Kip Griffin
